The Laverda motorcycle company’s roots began in the 1870’s when Pietro Laverda decided to start an agricultural engines enterprise called Laverda S.p.A in Breganze, north-east of Italy. Pietro’s grandson, Francesco founded Moto Laverda S.A.S – Dottore Francesco Laverda e fratelli almost three quarters of a century later. Assited by Luciano Zen, they both designed a small motorcycle, a simple four stroke 75cc motorcycle with girder forks and a fully enclosed driven chain in 1947.

Let’s fast forward now to the 1970s. Laverda became famous for their powerful air-cooled triples as they were some of the fastest and indeed, glamorous superbikes of the era but the following decade was not easy for the Italian company as they lacked the financial resources to develop an equally competitive descendant. As an alternative, the triple was given a makeover and refined to attain a more modern and desirable series of machines, the last and best of which was the SFC 1000.
